Bali Bali

It being the 15th day of CNY *or Chap Goh Mei to Hokkiens*, yet another excellent reason to have good food...



Had some of my 'chai' for lunch and dinner was at Bali Bali, the third in my quest for authentic Malaysian food.


Although in this case, Bali Bali is an Indonesian restaurant - but it also serves Malaysian and Thai cuisine. It was a good location, quite near to Chinatown, and the place was quite nice with wooden carvings as part of the decorations. But you know it's authentic Indonesian food since the servers there do look Indonesian *it's apparently run by a family*. The menu had quite a good selection, although it looked a bit limited in choice to me. The people were quite friendly and helpful, using basic conversational english. Business must be good, since the place was more than half packed on a Thursday night and the prices are a tad on the high side for me.

Anyway, I just had to order the Malaysian-style kari ayam *think every Malaysian can't resist ordering something which says "Malaysian" on the menu just to try it out :p the girl at the next table was eating the same thing, and sure enough, she turned out to be a Malaysian too* and coconut rice, with jasmine tea *the drinks selection was even more limited -_- unless you like alcohol with everything*. Aside from the spring onion garnishings *to make it look more appetising?* and random pieces of tomatoes *yes, would you believe it, tomatoes!*, the curry was quite good and rather had the Malaysian taste in it. Oh, but it doesn't come with potatoes *don't Malaysian curry chicken always have to have potatoes?*. The coconut rice isn't bad, but definitely not as yummy as the nasi lemak at Nyonya. But all in all, the taste was quite close to home ^_^


You know, I've been getting more and more absent-minded lately. Not only did I left my phone at work today, I also tried to use my Oyster card to tab the security gate when I got back -_-;



... right. Signing off now, going to tag along with HL to her friend's Chap Goh Mei party *probably the only real CNY-ish thing for this year*.
