... in front of the other ...

Someone said today...

'I think I like the person I am when I'm in front of the other person'

... here's hoping we are all lucky enough to find that other person.

... either way ...

Quoted from a good friend's blog, MF...
*my sentiments exactly, though I'll never be able to phrase it so concisely*

If someone tells you that you can do it, you might not be able to. Likewise, if someone tells you that you can’t do it, you might be able to…and you probably will just to prove that you can. So why listen? Why ask? Just do it!

If someone doesn’t believe you, there’s no use in explaining. If someone believes you, there’s no need in explaining. So why explain? Why try? Just shut up!

If someone thinks you’re mature, you have your reason for everything you do, be it known or unknown. If someone thinks you’re immature, everything you do is childish and playful. So why grow up? Why pretend? Just be who you are!

If someone hates you, everything you do is wrong or not good enough. If someone loves you, everything you do is right or understandable. So why think? Why bother? Just don’t care!

... either way, it doesn't matter ^_^

While on the bus to work today, I remember seeing this lady walking on the street, with her hair plaited, wearing a silver-gray faux fur coat and fluffy-felt black cap...

... many hours later, while on the bus back after work, I saw the very same lady walking on the street. A different street. But this time minus the hat.

I remember something my sociology lecturer once told us *a very amusingly sarcastic fella whose lectures are rarely boring - a great achievement for a Malaysian lecturer*. About how people from different cultural backgrounds have naturally different definitions of personal space. Something about how if you put 2 people sufficiently different at one end of the corridor to carry on a conversation, they will end up subconsciously moving slowly to the other end of the corridor during the same conversation. One needs to maintain a certain respectable distance when one is conversing, while the other needs to reduce the space in between to be able to converse properly, each adjusting to the other, and so on. And so on.

It was an involving thought, and quite true indeed. But I never came across such circumstances in real life, until I work with this other fellow -_- who is too close for comfort. I actually caught myself fidgeting and stepping around quite a few times, trying to give a little space in between. There was even once where we were talking at one end of the row of desks, but end up inching around the corner to the other side, until I realised what I was doing and tried to stay put instead.

But just cannot stand lar...

... so now I try to ensure that there is a table or at least some bit of furniture in between before I start talking o.O

One needs one's space.

... schooling 'n' education ...

A quote I always liked...

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

Was first introduced to the concept back in school *though it wasn't part of the syllabus :p* by my chemistry teacher *Pn Chan! ;) *, and came across it again recently when someone forwarded me this...

... jumping off cliffs ...

Was chatting with LH today, and she said something in response to something I said:

'any guy who likes me and I still don't know can go jump off cliffs'

... which was so cute, funny, and all too true :)

... life as it is ...

Quoted from a dear friend, yuni...

what if it doesn't appear today
or even tomorrow
but i know it'll someday
because somewhere over the rainbow

there'll always be hope

... short, sweet, and I totally loved it :) Never knew the poet in her.
*why didn't you write for 4B's choral speaking? :p*

... Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, 'n' Nobody ...

Spotted above an office photocopier:

Whose job is it?

There was an important job and Everybody was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that, as it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Somebody would do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up with Everybody blaming Somebody for a job which Anybody could have done but Nobody did.

Remembered seeing this somewhere else before, but not sure where... probably from one of those emails that keeps circulating around... How true, isn't it?

... animal stories ...

Came across these today in the newspapers while on a bus home:
taken from The Emotional Lives Of Animals

A woman noticed 2 baby mice trying to get out of a deep sink in her garage one morning. Seeing their growing exhaustion, she placed some water in a lid in the sink. The livelier mouse went for a drink and found a piece of food on its way which he picked up and took back to the weaker mouse. Every time the weaker mouse tried to take a bite, the livelier mouse moved the piece nearer and nearer to the water until finally the exhausted mouse reached the water. After regaining their strenth, they both managed to climb out of the sink using a board the woman had placed in the sink.

Gorillas have been known to hold wakes for their dead friends. A woman once saw a male gorilla picking up a piece of celery and placing it in the hand of his long-time mate who had passed away from cancer. He was trying to get her to wake up. Celery was her favourite food.

2 dogs were long time mates and had raised 8 litters of pups. The male used to push the female around. But when the female's leg was amputated due to a malignant tumour, he stopped shoving her around and became more caring to her.

Elephants in a national reserver were spotted walking a while but keep stopping to see and wait for a crippled baby elephant to catch up.

Food for my soul... :'(
